One of the most common complaints I hear from people following a Paleo lifestyle is that they can’t find food to snack on. I think what most people mean is that they can’t find convenient food to snack on – meaning something packaged and sold at 7-11. But as we all know, going Paleo requires a little bit of planning. So, I give you a gift – I’ve put together a pretty good list of some of my favorite Paleo-appropriate snacks:

  • Raw nuts (I like raw, unroasted cashews)
  • Hard-boiled eggs – if you go the deviled eggs route, there are literally tons of variations. Sprinkle them with paprika, or you can make ’em with curry, or Old Bay Seasoning, or wasabi. Try deviled eggs with smoked salmon or crabmeat. Lemony deviled eggs, deviled eggs with bacon, deviled eggs with sweet gherkin relish. Unlimited, people, unlimited.
  • Almond butter with carrot sticks/celery rounds/apple slices
  • “Paleo Parfait” – Mash 1 small, ripe banana in a bowl, and add 1 tbsp of full-fat coconut milk. Mash until the consistency of yogurt. Add your fillings – nuts, dried fruit, and coconut flakes.
  • Homemade trail mix (mixed raw nuts, dark chocolate chips, large coconut flakes, dried fruit)
  • High-quality beef jerky (Colorado Springs people, check out the jerky sold at Black Forest Bison on Woodmen!)
  • High-quality raw cheese (IF you are doing dairy – Whole Foods has a great selection). I love raw Manchego with Gala apple slices.
  • Plain Greek yogurt (again, only if you don’t have a dairy issue)
  • Turkey wrapped around cucumber, tomato, grated carrot and avocado
  • Canned sardines mashed with lemon juice and dijon mustard
  • Cucumber rounds with guacamole
  • Canned tuna with homemade mayo and lemon juice
  • Smoked salmon wrapped around avocado slices
  • Coconut butter. With a spoon. ‘Nuff said.
  • Justin’s Almond Butter … or Justin’s Hazelnut Butter. All are delicious.

  • Larabars
  • Bacon!!!!
  • Prosciutto wrapped around melon
